The Onda City Council has inaugurated the MICO Gaming Zone, a new sports and leisure area located in the historic setting of El Carmen, reopening over 8,000 square meters for the enjoyment of children, youth, and families.

This initiative is part of the municipal project for the comprehensive recovery of El Carmen and involved an investment of 357,000 euros. The project was made possible by the cession of land by the Carmelite Community, which also participated in the inaugural event and blessed the new space.
The opening was celebrated with a festival that brought together hundreds of residents and families, featuring guided activities, children's entertainment, face painting, snacks, music, and proposals designed to enjoy a day of coexistence in nature, at the foot of the Sierra de Espadán.

"Today we recover much more than sports facilities; we recover memories, emotions, and a space that is part of the heart of all Onda residents. A city that thinks about its future is one that looks after its children, because childhood is the foundation of all action and their well-being is an inalienable task."

The new MICO Gaming Zone features football, basketball, handball, table tennis, and fronton courts, as well as children's play areas, picnic spots, rest areas, and family gathering points. Local artist Pau Canelles has painted a large mural with the name of the new zone, which integrates into a natural environment designed to become an outdoor meeting point and a benchmark facility in the province.
This action responds to the municipal commitment to recover disused historic spaces and put them back at the service of the public. The inauguration is part of the municipal strategy to consolidate Onda as a City of Childhood, with safe, accessible, and adapted spaces for the well-being of the youngest and their families.
The opening of the MICO Gaming Zone also represents a new step within the comprehensive recovery project of El Carmen, where the City Council is already working on the future reopening of the International Museum of Sciences of Onda-El Carmen. This future museum space will combine scientific dissemination, technological innovation, and immersive experiences, with augmented reality resources, interactive zones, and proposals aimed at family and school audiences.
