The city of Vila-real was institutionally represented at the event commemorating the 25 years of the Valencian Language Academy (AVL), which took place at the Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes in Valencia. The municipal delegation, comprising the councilors for Linguistic Normalization, Santi Cortells, and Institutional Relations, Diego Vila, highlighted the municipal government's support for the promotion and defense of the Valencian language.
Santi Cortells emphasized the importance of Vila-real's presence, stating that “the AVL is a fundamental institution for the future of Valencian, and our city has maintained a close and very active relationship with the Academy for years”. He remarked that Vila-real has a Linguistic Normalization Department that is a “benchmark in the Valencian Community with a consolidated track record that demonstrates the city's firm commitment to Valencian as a linguistic, cultural, and identity heritage”.
The head of Normalization also recalled the recent renewal of the collaboration agreement between the City Council and the AVL, an agreement that facilitates the continuation of joint initiatives for linguistic promotion, advice, and cultural activities linked to the language.
For his part, the Councilor for Institutional Relations, Diego Vila, pointed out that “the AVL represents a key element in the dignification and normalization of Valencian over these 25 years of history”. He added that “from Vila-real, we want to continue strengthening institutional ties with an essential entity for the cultural and linguistic cohesion of our people”. Vila also praised “the rigorous and consensus-based work that the Academy has carried out over the years, consolidating itself as a reference institution in the study, protection, and social projection of our language”.
The academic event, which began at 6:00 PM in the auditorium of the Monastery of San Miguel de los Reyes, concluded with a performance by singer-songwriter Borja Penalba, who performed poems by Maria Beneyto that he had recently set to music, as part of the commemorative events for the AVL's 25th anniversary.
