This initiative aims to analyze and reflect on the role of local governments and European institutions in the face of armed conflicts, with a special focus on the situation in Ukraine.
During the conference, topics such as support for Ukrainian refugees in the Valencian Community, experiences of international conflict, and the political, economic, and military contributions of the European Union to Ukraine will be discussed. It will also include the screening of the documentary Voces del Frente, directed by Jay Buckley, and a round table with representatives of the Ukrainian community, moderated by Natalia Lytvyn, a Doctor of Historical Sciences from the Catholic University of Lviv (Ukraine).
Confirmed attendees include José Benlloch, Mayor of Vila-real; Elsa González, Vice-Rector for Social Responsibility, Inclusive Policies, and Equality at Universitat Jaume I; Antonia García Valls, Government Subdelegate in Castellón; Oleg Grabovetskyy, interim Consul General of Ukraine in Barcelona, and Oksana Vovk Simon, president of the Kalyna Ukrainian Association of Castellón.
The closing ceremony will feature Ukrainian singer Odarka Zaytseva, who will perform traditional musical pieces such as Al lado del álamo and Antorchas. The government team has expressed gratitude for the work of Natalia Lytvyn, who is currently interning at the Vila-real city council and has been the precursor and main organizer of the conference.
This event reinforces Vila-real's commitment to promoting peace and international solidarity, offering a space for dialogue and reflection on the effects of armed conflicts and the need for local and European cooperation.
