The large smoke plume generated by the fire has been visible from various points in the province of Castellón since Sunday afternoon, causing concern among residents of several towns.
According to the update provided by the Provincial Fire Consortium of Castellón, the fire has affected two storage yards located opposite the main facilities of a scrapyard company. One of these yards belongs to the scrapyard itself, while the other corresponds to a company dedicated to wooden pallet management.
Despite the magnitude of the fire, intervention teams managed to prevent the flames from reaching the main scrapyard facilities, which was key to limiting greater damage.
Throughout Sunday night into Monday, firefighters continued with extinction efforts, focusing especially on reducing the thermal load in the affected areas. This work is fundamental to subsequently facilitate the intervention of heavy machinery, which will allow progress in control and definitive extinction efforts.
As of early Monday, the fire remains contained but active, with a deployment still on the ground. Four fire brigades, two forest fire units, a 35,000-liter articulated tanker truck, two command units, and one headquarters unit are participating in the extinction efforts.
