Neighborhood opposition to the implementation of the Blue and Orange Zones in Alicante is gaining new support. The neighborhood associations of San Antón and El Pla have joined entities from Alipark and El Templete de Benalúa in their rejection of extending paid parking in the city's streets.
The associations have agreed to convene an open meeting on June 16th with the aim of coordinating actions and pooling efforts against a measure that, they argue, harms residents, workers, merchants, and users of the affected neighborhoods.
The gathering will be directed at all neighborhood associations in Alicante, as well as merchant organizations and citizen groups. The intention of the organizing entities is to create a united front that advocates for alternatives to the model proposed by the City Council.
The organizing associations reiterate their rejection of the implementation of new regulated parking zones. In their view, the parking problem in Alicante cannot be solved by expanding paid areas.
These groups argue that any solution must consider the real needs of residents and also the economic activity of the neighborhoods. In this regard, they believe that the extension of the Blue and Orange Zones could affect both those who live in the involved areas and those who work, shop, or visit these environments daily.
The call for the meeting on June 16th aims, according to the associations, to open a space for coordination between neighborhoods and groups to study possible joint actions. The entities want to gather support and present a common stance against a measure they consider detrimental to daily mobility and neighborhood life.
