The organization went from assisting 416 family units to 311, representing a 25.25% drop. The total number of beneficiaries also decreased by 27.70%, standing at 773. These figures consolidate the downward trend that began in 2024.
According to Cáritas Vila-real director Enrique Cortés, this decrease is attributed to the improved vulnerability status of the people assisted, mainly due to finding employment, and to actions aimed at avoiding duplication of aid. The organization requires prior assessment from the City Council's Social Services to prevent potential 'scheming'.
By nationality, the assisted families primarily come from Colombia (76), Spain (57), Peru (55), Venezuela (33), Morocco (29), Algeria (21), and Romania (6), along with 34 families from other countries.
The Councilor for Social Services, Marín, expressed pride in the collaboration with Cáritas, highlighting it as a 'real achievement' that 105 families no longer need this specific assistance, especially given the arrival of new populations to the city. He emphasized the city's model, which 'does not have first-class and second-class citizens'.
One of the main innovations implemented in 2025 was the partial replacement of the food distribution system with prepaid grocery cards. These cards, with monthly top-ups ranging from 30 to 70 euros, aim to 'ensure dignity and personal autonomy,' allowing individuals to discreetly choose the food they need and avoiding stigmatization.
Cáritas Vila-real recorded a surplus of approximately 34,000 euros in 2025, which could allow for increased amounts on the prepaid cards. The organization's total income amounted to 135,569 euros, mainly from private donations, parish contributions, the agreement with the City Council (50,000 euros), and grants from entities such as La Caixa Foundation or the Fundació Caixa Rural Vila-real.
The parish priest and vicar general of the diocese of Segorbe-Castellón, Javier Aparici, described the balance sheet as a 'testimony of life' and called for 'choosing the path of love and community building' in contrast to individualism.
