'Mediterráneo's' III Municipalism Forum Addresses Local Management Challenges in Castellón

The event, organized by the newspaper, gathers mayors and experts to discuss housing, emergencies, and basic services in the province of Castellón.

The newspaper Mediterráneo is hosting today, April 15, the third edition of the Municipalism Forum in Grau de Castelló, an event that brings together mayors and institutional representatives to exchange ideas on improving local governance.

The event, taking place at the Moll de Costa hall from approximately 5:50 PM to 8:20 PM, will be inaugurated by the president of the Provincial Council of Castellón, Marta Barrachina, following a presentation by Mediterráneo's director, Ángel Báez. The forum is structured into thematic blocks combining expert presentations with open debate sessions for municipal representatives.
The first panel, titled Municipalities facing the housing deficit, will be moderated by Elena Aguilar, the newspaper's Head of Economy. Participants include David Ruiz, president of Apecc; Susana Babiloni, president of the College of Architects; and Sebastián Fernández, Regional Secretary for Housing. They will analyze the current situation, actions to facilitate housing access, main obstacles, and the role of public-private collaboration.
The second block, The role of Municipalities in emergencies, will be moderated by Carmen Tomás, Head of Society. Speakers include Andrés Balfagó, general director of Coordination of Prevention, Fire Extinction, and Rescue Services of the Valencian Community (SPEIS-CV), and Antonio Costa, head of Castellón Firefighters. This session will address current security contexts, challenges posed by adverse phenomena, and the importance of citizen collaboration.
Finally, the third panel, How to guarantee quality basic municipal services, will be moderated by Miguel Agost, Mediterráneo's chief editor. Participants include Sergio Toledo, president of Reciplasa; Héctor Folgado, third vice-president of the Diputación de Castellón; and Carlos Muñoz, general director of Grupo Simetría. This block will focus on waste collection and treatment, the role of the new Provincial Water Consortium, the incorporation of new technologies, and challenges in these areas.
Throughout the day, municipal officials from towns such as Castellón, Vila-real, Burriana, La Vall d’Uixó, Almassora, Onda, Nules, Orpesa, Moncofa, Albocàsser, and La Llosa will contribute their perspectives in open debates, led by Ángel Báez, enriching the discussion on the challenges and opportunities of local management.
