Villarreal coach, Marcelino García Toral, faces the match against Athletic Club at San Mamés with the urgency of securing a victory to break his worst winless streak away from home since returning to the 'Yellow Submarine' bench two seasons ago.

The team led by the Asturian coach has gone three away games without a win. Their last triumph away from the Estadio de la Cerámica was against Levante (0-1) on February 18 in a postponed match. Since then, Villarreal has recorded a balance of two losses and one draw, conceding six goals and scoring only two.
During this period, the team suffered a heavy defeat against Barcelona (4-1), drew against Alavés (1-1), and lost to Girona (1-0). This run of three away games without a win is not the first time it has occurred since Marcelino took charge in the middle of the 2023-2024 season.
In fact, last February, Villarreal also went three matches without a victory: against Betis (2-0), Osasuna (2-2), and Getafe (2-1). However, this current streak is far from his worst run at the helm of the team, which occurred during his first spell on the 'Yellow Submarine' bench in the 2014-2015 season.
On that occasion, Villarreal went eleven matches without a win between matchdays 17 and 38, with a record of three losses and eight draws, a situation that Marcelino hopes not to repeat in this second stint at the club.
