The third vice president and minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery, Vicente Martínez Mus, presented the project at Moncofa City Council. He was accompanied by the mayor, Wenceslao Alós, and the manager of the Public Entity for Wastewater Sanitation (EPSAR), Jose Aparicio.
“"This is a key action that will completely transform the municipality's sanitation system, making it more efficient and prepared to respond to growth, especially in the coastal area during the summer months."
The action, promoted by the Generalitat through EPSAR, includes the construction of new collectors and a state-of-the-art pumping station. This will optimize the conduction of wastewater, reduce repumping, and strengthen evacuation capacity during periods of higher demand. Martínez Mus highlighted that the new station will improve the hydraulic functioning of the sanitation system and increase the capacity to manage flows, especially during rain episodes, preventing system overloads.
Furthermore, the new infrastructure will be more energy-efficient, leading to more sustainable water management with lower costs. The facility will collect wastewater from Moncofa and direct it to the existing system, pushing flows towards the Xilxes d'Alt station. It will also feature solid pretreatment and odor control systems, improving both performance and integration into the environment.
The Generalitat has already tendered the works, and they are expected to begin once summer ends, with an approximate duration of one and a half years. Thus, Moncofa's new pumping station could become operational by the end of 2027. The objective is to ensure that Moncofa has a modern, efficient, and future-ready sanitation system as soon as possible.
