The Sant Blai sports center in Burriana will undergo a comprehensive renovation with an investment of 700,000 euros, resulting from an agreement between the Provincial Council of Castellón and Burriana City Council, to transform a historic facility with significant accessibility and modernization deficiencies.

The announcement was made during an institutional visit where the mayor of Burriana, Jorge Monferrer, and the president of the Provincial Council of Castellón, Marta Barrachina, presented the scope of an intervention that seeks to adapt the pavilion to the current needs of users, clubs, and spectators.

"A person in a wheelchair cannot access this facility, cannot be a user of this facility, cannot enter the changing rooms, cannot enter the toilet."

Jorge Monferrer · Mayor of Burriana
Monferrer explained that the renovation is necessary because, as of today, the facility does not offer full accessibility. The mayor stressed that this situation cannot be maintained in a public service and argued that the action will allow the venue to be "a facility for all citizens of Burriana". He also focused on the exterior aspect of the building, pointing out that the current facade "is not up to the standard of either Burriana or the province of Castellón".
For her part, Barrachina highlighted that the objective is to completely transform the venue and announced that the Provincial Council of Castellón will make an investment of 700,000 euros so that the City Council can undertake the renovation. The provincial president also defended that the current building "does not meet the needs of the citizens of Burriana today", especially in terms of accessibility.
The renovation will not only improve accessibility and the facade but could also act on other structural elements such as the building's roof, depending on what the project's drafting determines. Barrachina summarized the purpose of the action by stating that "this building will cease to be a building of the past to become an inclusive, accessible, more modern space and, above all, one that will be worthy of Burriana's athletes".
The City Council's forecast is that, once the technical intervention is defined, the works could last between eight months and a year. Monferrer emphasized that the sports center is one of the city's historic facilities and that "more than 1,000 people use it weekly", which is why he considers it a priority to accelerate the processing as much as possible so that the renovation can start soon.
During the event, Monferrer also framed this investment within the institutional collaboration maintained by the City Council, Provincial Council, and Generalitat Valenciana. He highlighted the sensitivity of the provincial institution and recalled other actions promoted with its support, such as the renovation of the Teatre Payà, the pedestal of Sant Blai, or the main bell of the bell tower. Barrachina defended the role of the Provincial Council in these types of projects, stating that "that is what the Provincial Council of Castellón is for, to reach where others do not".
