The municipality of Vilafamés travels back in time during this holiday weekend, inviting visitors to walk its streets and encounter characters and scenes depicting life from the last century. From portrait artists who immortalized the locals to washerwomen in the communal laundries or young men returning from the Cuban War, the Vilafamés 1900 exhibition aims to highlight the ancient trades and customs that have shaped the town's identity.
From this Friday until Sunday, weather permitting, Vilafamés will recreate the atmosphere, trades, and daily life of the early 20th century. The event will feature live demonstrations and shows that bring the past closer to both residents and the thousands of visitors who take advantage of this fair to explore the municipality.
This year, up to sixteen different scenarios have been planned where scenes from the last century will unfold. Among the recreations, visitors can see everything from a tavern to a bullfight, the 'quintos' (young men entering military service) procession, or even a wedding recreation. Visitors will also be able to observe the bailiff, lacemakers, teachers, the Civil Guard, or nurses from over a hundred years ago at work.
Among the novelties of this edition, the City Council highlights the presence of a minute camera, which will allow visitors to relive the beginnings of popular photography, and the recreation of a social club, conceived as a meeting point and representation of daily life from that era. All these demonstrations are possible thanks to the active involvement of the residents, both in recreating the scenes and in organizing the event. The exhibition will run until Sunday noon, as this year, for the first time, it has been extended to three days.
