The Vicente Aguilera Cerni Contemporary Art Museum (Macvac) in Vilafamés recorded a total of 15,177 visitors in 2025, the highest figure in its history, surpassing the previous year's data by 11.83%.

The visitor numbers for Macvac in 2025 have exceeded all expectations, reaching 15,177 people. This 11.83% increase compared to 2024 consolidates the museum's upward trend, boosted by the expansion of its facilities with the Casa Abadía, completed at the end of 2023. In addition to visits to the main venue in Vilafamés, attendance has been recorded for temporary exhibitions organized outside the town, such as the exhibition on Maestrazgo and contemporary avant-garde at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Universitat Politècnica de València, and a collection of self-portraits by photographer Ana Roussel at Castellón Airport.
Data from the last seven years reveal that, despite no increase in the number of temporary exhibitions (six in Vilafamés and four outside the town in 2025, the same figure as previous years), the expansion of the museum space has had a direct impact on public attendance. The 15,177 visitors in 2025 contrast sharply with the 13,449 in 2023, before the Casa Abadía opened, and the lower figures from preceding years: 11,355 (2022), 7,558 (2021), and 4,565 (2020), a year marked by the health crisis.
The incorporation of the Casa Abadía has also allowed for an increase in the museum's permanent collection, which grew from 751 pieces (356 on display) in 2023 to 831 works (410 on display) last year. A unique aspect of Macvac is that all pieces are the result of loans or donations from the artists themselves, without any financial compensation.
Considered the second oldest contemporary art museum in Spain and a cultural benchmark in rural areas since its creation in 1968, Macvac relies on public funding. The Generalitat maintains an annual subsidy of 60,000 euros for operating expenses and activities, a similar amount to that received by other cultural events such as the Sexenni de Morella.
In the province of Castellón, other museum projects have also gained momentum. The Cinctorres Paleontological Museum, now the Miquel Guardiola Figols Permanent Museum Collection, and the Altura Oil Museum, recognized as a permanent museum collection, complete the cultural offerings of the area.
