The Valencian Generalitat has authorized two new photovoltaic plants in Vilafamés and Vall d'Alba, while requiring modifications for a larger project in Onda due to its potential environmental impact.

The growth of renewable energies continues in the province of Castellón, with the processing of new projects. The Consell has given the green light to two photovoltaic installations and has mandated a redesign for a solar farm in Onda. Additionally, another plant projected in Nules has been submitted for public information.
One of the approved initiatives is the Vilafamés 3 MW plant, promoted by the Valencian group GreenB2E. This installation, which will feature 5,544 solar panels and an investment of approximately 1.3 million euros, has received prior administrative and construction authorization, including the dismantling and restoration plan for the affected land. It is one of the few plants that has been able to proceed after the Vilafamés City Council modified its General Urban Planning Plan (PGOU) to strictly limit the implementation of photovoltaic installations on undeveloped land.
Similarly, the Valencian company Heliomenos 20 has obtained permits to build a plant in Vall d'Alba, specifically in the Juncosa area. This project will have a power of 2,240 kW, with 5,096 panels and a budget also around 1.3 million euros. The approval includes the dismantling and restoration plan, and the evacuation infrastructure will connect with another plant from the same company at the same location.
However, the larger project in Onda, promoted by a Madrid-based company, with a nominal power of 23.2 MW and an estimated investment of 2.5 million euros, will have to wait. The General Directorate of Urban Planning, Landscape and Environmental Assessment has concluded that it could have significant environmental effects and requires an ordinary environmental impact assessment. Among the required modifications is the need to adapt the solar field and the evacuation line to Patricova regulations, better assess its integration into the natural resource management plan of the Serra d'Espadà, and deepen the analysis of its impact on fauna, landscape, and cultural heritage, especially due to the presence of terraces and ethnological elements in the area.
Finally, another plant that is now beginning the permit application process is the one projected in Nules by a renewables company, which plans to launch an installation (named MSP 17 La Raya III) with 6,804 panels, 4,290 kW of power, and a budget of approximately 1.58 million euros. This company already has other solar energy projects underway in various locations in Castellón, such as Benassal, Burriana, Vila-real, and Vall d’Uixó.
