The mayor of Castellón de la Plana has warned of an attempt to impersonate her identity on social media, after detecting a fake Facebook profile sending private messages to deceive users.

The chief magistrate of Castellón made the complaint public this morning, stating that the fake account, identified as 'Begoña Carrasco Garcíaa', has been sending private messages with the intention of deceiving other users. This warning was issued through a statement from the City Council.

"It is the profile 'Begoña Carrasco Garcíaa', a fake account from which private messages have been sent to other users with the intention of deceiving them."

The municipal official lamented that these fraudulent practices have become common, taking advantage of the image of public figures. The detection of the fake account was possible because several users contacted her after receiving the deceptive messages. Therefore, she encouraged all recipients of these messages to report any suspicious or fraudulent profile on social media.
Furthermore, she emphasized the importance of not accepting or replying to private messages or WhatsApp messages that come from unknown accounts or numbers, or that are not the usual official profiles. The mayor reminded that her only official profiles are on Instagram (@begona_carrasco), Facebook (Begoña Carrasco García), X (@begonacarrasco), and TikTok (@begona_carrasco).
Finally, she expressed her regret for the inconvenience this identity theft attempt may have caused and condemned the fraudulent use of social media to exploit the image of other public figures for illegal interests.
