Castellón Hosts First Rromipen Awards Gala to Recognize Gypsy Talent

The Teatre del Raval in Castelló de la Plana hosted the ceremony honoring outstanding achievements in social, sports, and music fields.

The Teatre del Raval in Castelló de la Plana hosted the first edition of the Rromipen Awards, organized by the Gypsy Integration Association, to honor personal and professional achievements in social, sports, and musical fields.

The gala, held on the eve of International Romani Day (April 8), was attended by several authorities, including the Councillor for Interculturality, Vicent Sales; the Councillor for Neighborhoods, Paco Cabañero; the Councillor for Economy and Employment, Juan Carlos Redondo; and the Provincial Deputy for Equality, Marisa Torlá. The president of the Gypsy Integration Association, José Gabarre, was also present.

Sales emphasized the importance of Gypsy community inclusion as a collective task, based on respect, equal opportunities, and the appreciation of the cultural, social, and human richness it brings to Castellón. He also praised the work of the Gypsy Integration Association, highlighting its role in building a more cohesive, diverse, and just society.
The awards were structured into three main categories. In the social sphere, the Baró award went to Nuria Martínez and Noelia Ferro from the Punjab Foundation, while the Sastipen was awarded to Lisardo Gabarre. In the sports category, the Balipen award recognized bodybuilder Joaquín Escudero. Finally, in the musical field, Antonio Remache received the Baripen award, Jairo de Remache the Drom for his career, Juan Motos the youth Pernipen, and Joni Giménez the Sonanta Kalí.
