The city of Benicàssim continues its move towards a more sustainable model with the distribution of 20,000 brown bins for organic waste and biodegradable bags among its residents. This initiative follows the achievement of 50% implementation of the new container islands in the municipality, within the framework of Environment Week.
The main objective is to facilitate the correct separation of organic waste in households and promote more responsible management habits. With this new system, it is expected to increase the percentage of recycled waste, reduce the amount sent to landfills, and improve the efficiency of the municipal collection service.
“"Sustainability is built with small daily actions that, when added together, generate great results for society as a whole. From the City Council, we are making a significant investment to modernize waste management and offer residents the necessary tools to actively participate in this change."
Mayor Susana Marqués highlighted the importance of these actions, while the Councilor for the Environment, Vanessa Batalla, pointed out that selective collection of organic matter is a key challenge for the coming years. According to Batalla, correctly separating food scraps, fruits, vegetables, or small plant waste allows them to be transformed into useful resources, reducing environmental impact.
To facilitate citizen participation, the City Council has established an itinerant distribution schedule during June at various strategic points in the municipality, such as supermarkets, tourist offices, libraries, and social centers. Distribution points will generally be operational from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM.
