The town of Benicàssim has been the setting for the Oceanman Costa Azahar Spain 2026, an open water swimming competition that brought together over 850 swimmers from 52 nationalities, marking the start of the European circuit calendar.

The sea of Benicàssim set the pace for a day of endurance and international atmosphere. The event saw Mikel Arteaga García and Italian Elena Lionello emerge as winners in the main 10-kilometer distance.
The competition unfolded during a morning of open water swimming with favorable weather, although the sea became choppier in the final hours, especially during the Sprint 2K race. The beaches of Benicàssim once again served as the ideal venue for an event that combines sporting challenge, tourism promotion, and Mediterranean ambiance.
In the 10-kilometer distance, Mikel Arteaga García secured the men's victory with a time of 2:37:14. He was followed by David Murria in second place with 2:43:19 and Sever Olteanu, who completed the podium with 2:49:17. Meanwhile, Elena Lionello dominated the women's classification with a time of 2:50:01, followed by Kamilla Boross from Hungary and Magdalena von Grotthuss from Germany.
The Half Oceanman 5K event saw clear Spanish dominance. Nil Ibáñez Pina won the men's category with 1:06:44, while Aida Bertran Izquierdo was the first in the women's category with 1:13:31. In the Sprint 2K, Swiss Maxime Rivier won the men's category with 29:54, and Melanie Marin Rueda took the women's victory with 37:09.
The security and assistance operation played a crucial role, with coordinated efforts among the security team, volunteers, support boats, and medical personnel. The competition also maintained its commitment to inclusion through the Inspiration category, reinforcing integration and sport for all.

"It is a source of pride to host this competition once again, an event that has found its place on the city's beaches, becoming once more a sporting stage for high-level international competitions, where the nearly 900 athletes will return to their places of origin as ambassadors of Benicàssim's hospitality."
