The exercise will involve the activation of warning sirens, the sending of alerts via the ES-Alert system, and the implementation of self-protection measures such as the confinement of the affected population. Emergency resources will also be mobilized, an advanced command post (PMA) will be established, and two municipal operational coordination centers (Cecopal) will be set up in Castellón and Almassora to ensure coordinated action among all involved administrations.
The organization of this drill was the central focus of an operational meeting held this Thursday at the Casa dels Caragols, organized by the Valencian Agency for Security and Emergency Response (AVSRE). Attendees included the mayor of Almassora, María Tormo, the councilor for Citizen Security, Silvana Rovira, and the chief of the Local Police, José Alós.
Also present were the regional secretary for Emergencies and Interior and director of the AVSRE, Fernando Lasheras, as well as representatives from petrochemical park companies, the Castelló City Council, and members of the state security forces. The primary goal is for citizens to know how to act and what self-protection measures to adopt in an emergency, as information and prevention are fundamental.
“"This drill is another step in the commitment to continue improving security and response capacity in the face of any eventuality, working in a coordinated manner with all involved administrations and agents."
This process continues the meetings initiated last year, following the Almassora City Council's request to resume such exercises. New technical working meetings are planned, as well as a training day for municipal officials next May, with the participation of AVSRE technicians. Subsequently, informative sessions will be held for the public to practically demonstrate how to act in an emergency situation.
The first emergency drill in the Serrallo industrial park took place in January 2018 in the municipalities of Almassora and Castelló de la Plana, with a coordination exercise that lasted 52 minutes and served to evaluate citizen reaction and the response times of security forces.
