The Valencian Generalitat has launched the 2026 call for the Municipal Strategic Fund for Fire Prevention and Forest Management, endowed with 7.95 million euros, to finance actions in municipalities with forest land and approved prevention plans, benefiting 135 town councils in the province of Castellón.

This initiative aims to strengthen forest fire prevention through direct investments in municipal planning. Eligible actions include the creation and maintenance of firebreak areas, the improvement of forest tracks and water points, as well as felling, pruning, and clearing tasks, all aimed at reducing risk and optimizing response to potential emergencies.
The province of Castellón, with a vast forest area and numerous inland municipalities particularly exposed to fire risk, concentrates a significant portion of this call. The aid is directed at local councils that already have approved planning, with the objective that they can execute concrete prevention measures adapted to the needs of each municipal area.

"Local fire prevention plans are essential so that, together with all the operations deployed by the Generalitat and provincial councils, we can be as effective as possible in preventing this scourge that forest fires represent."

Vicente Martínez Mus · Third Vice President and Minister of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery
The Generalitat considers this fund a fundamental tool to act proactively on the territory, minimize the severity of these emergencies, and improve the preparation of mountains for episodes that are occurring with increasing frequency throughout the year.
The total amount of the call is 7,952,471.68 euros and is distributed according to objective criteria: 20% is distributed equally among all beneficiary municipalities; 40% is allocated according to forest area; another 20% is calculated based on the relationship between forest area and population; and the remaining 20% is distributed according to protected or cataloged forest area. Since its creation in 2023, the number of beneficiary municipalities has increased from 464 to 499 in this 2026 call.
