The incident took place around 2:30 PM on Sunday, when a section of the hotel's dining room ceiling detached and fell onto some of the guests who were having lunch. As a result, seven tourists suffered contusions, though none sustained serious injuries.
Two of those affected, an 8-year-old minor and a 78-year-old man, were discharged at the scene. The remaining individuals were transferred to Hospital Marina Baixa and Clínica Benidorm, being progressively discharged throughout Sunday afternoon, with the last patient leaving the medical center at 9:30 PM.
“"There was no blood, everyone just had contusions."
The management of Hoteles Poseidón has initiated a comprehensive inspection of the plasterboard installation to determine the exact causes of the collapse. While the age of the hotel, dating back to the 1990s, is not ruled out as a contributing factor, they are awaiting the technical report from the municipal architect.
Affected guests have been relocated to the dining room of the adjacent hotel, the Poseidón Centro, while the situation is resolved. Eyewitnesses recounted the significant scare, emphasizing the good fortune that the area of the collapse was not completely full of diners at that moment.
