The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon during a specific surveillance operation for personal mobility devices (PMDs). Officers were checking the documentation and technical condition of these transport means to ensure compliance with current regulations.
According to the Local Police, the rider ignored officers' instructions and fled at high speed through several city streets. During the chase, they crossed busy roads, increasing the risk to pedestrians and other vehicles. The route included streets such as Gambo, Pérez Llorca, Primavera, Emilio Ortuño, Arco Iris, and Sol, as well as areas near the beach and Benidorm City Hall, all with significant public presence.
Finally, officers managed to locate and apprehend the rider without any personal incidents or collisions, despite the high speed and the urban route.
After stopping the scooter, officers conducted a detailed inspection and detected technical modifications allowing speeds far exceeding authorized limits. The maximum speed recorded, verified by police metrology equipment, was 104 km/h.
The operation resulted in the detection of numerous serious infractions, including reckless driving, lack of mandatory insurance, and absence of the vehicle's registration certificate. These irregularities can lead to significant fines and potential vehicle impoundment.
These controls are part of Benidorm Local Police's efforts to ensure compliance with traffic regulations and prevent behaviors that compromise road safety, such as technical tampering or missing documentation. Police emphasized that the goal is to reduce accident risk and protect all urban space users.
