The arrest took place during a routine Civil Guard checkpoint in the municipality of Polop. Officers stopped a vehicle with three occupants, and upon questioning the driver, detected inconsistent responses that raised suspicions, leading to a more thorough identification of the passengers.
One of the occupants, traveling in the back seat, presented a Bulgarian identity card that officers quickly identified as fake using various verification techniques. Subsequently, he attempted to provide new documentation, including a European Union Citizen Registration Certificate (CERCU) and an image of a supposed Bulgarian passport, the authenticity of which was also questioned.
Given the evidence of document forgery, officers proceeded to arrest the individual. Following the arrest, efforts were initiated with various police units, both national and international, to establish the man's true identity. These investigations confirmed that all documentation presented was fraudulent.
Finally, the detainee was fully identified as a Moldovan fugitive, wanted by his country's authorities for drug trafficking offenses, facing pending sentences of up to fifteen years in prison. According to investigations, the man was a member of a Moldovan criminal organization and had been residing in Spain for at least six years.
The detainee has been placed at the disposal of the investigative section of the court of first instance in Villajoyosa (Alicante), which has ordered his provisional imprisonment without bail, pending extradition to Moldova.
