The plenary session has given the green light to the new rates for the municipal parking lots of the Mercado Municipal, Tomás Ortuño, and Ametlla de Mar, which will come into effect this June. These rates may increase by 20% during the summer season (from June 21 to September 22) and will be reduced by 20% for the rest of the year. The price per minute is set at 0.0366 euros, with a daily maximum of 21.99 euros. Monthly passes will range from 130.28 euros (night) to 195.43 euros (full-time), with an annual pass costing 1,954.30 euros. This tariff adjustment occurs while an informative file opened against the concessionaire for undue fee collection remains in process.
Before the budget debate, the Economic-Financial Plan was approved with votes from PP and Vox and the abstention of PSOE. The Councilor for Finance, Aida García Mayor, argued that it is a "punctual and extraordinary" plan to incorporate the 348.6 million euros from the TSJCV ruling on the APR-7 land into the 2025 accounts. According to the councilor, the City Council maintains a solvent financial situation and does not require cuts or tax increases.
The 2026 municipal budget, approved with votes from the Partido Popular government, amounts to 224.7 million euros, an 83% increase compared to the extended 2024 budget. Personnel expenses have slightly risen, while social spending has grown significantly in Education, with 4.6 million allocated to programs and services, plus 2.6 million for the renovation of the Ausiàs March school. Investments reach 93.5 million, driven by 55 million from the Economic Impulse Fund for the Serra Gelada ruling and 24.9 million in savings from 2025.
Among the planned actions are 2.7 million euros to initiate the Open Arena project, 7.9 million for access to the industrial estate, 1.8 million for the El Moralet park-and-ride facility, and 4.5 million from European funds. The councilor highlighted that the budget allows for service improvements without raising municipal taxes.
Finally, the contracting file for the Benidorm Open Arena project has been approved, which will transform the bullring and its surroundings into a cultural and youth space with a total investment of 15 million euros. The project includes the rehabilitation of the bullring as a multifunctional space (Arena Live), the creation of a multipurpose youth center (Arena Joven), and the improvement of connectivity (Arena Encuentro). The awarded company will have 18 months to complete the works.
