The Generalitat has initiated the processing of the Management and Use Plan (PRUG) for the Serpis Protected Landscape, opening the preliminary public consultation period to lay the groundwork for its regulation.

The process, led by the Directorate General of Natural and Animal Environment of the Third Vice-presidency and Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory, and Recovery, will be available through the Generalitat's Participation Portal from May 20th. Submissions can be made electronically or through the legal channels established.
Through this consultation, the Generalitat advances in developing the protection regime for the natural area, establishing the framework for its conservation, public use, and sustainable management. The future plan will define guidelines for the management of the Serpis River and its surroundings, guiding actions to improve habitats, enhance ecological and landscape value, and strengthen the role of the riverine ecological corridor.
The plan will also include the protection of the cultural heritage associated with the river and the promotion of orderly public use. The Serpis Protected Landscape was declared by Decree 39/2007, on April 13th, under the Law 11/1994 on Protected Natural Areas of the Comunitat Valenciana.
The participation of public administrations, local entities, socio-economic agents, universities, and research centers will be encouraged to strengthen coordination and knowledge of its natural values. The protected landscape area covers municipalities in the provinces of Alicante and Valencia, making the plan a key tool for coordinated management and sustainable development.
This stretch of the Serpis River, bordered by the Mariola and Benicadell mountain ranges to the north, and the Safor, Cuta, Alfaro, Serrella, and Aitana ranges to the south, acts as a connector between the mountains and the coast, forming a mosaic of ecosystems including forest areas, riverbanks, and rocky outcrops.
