The Benidorm City Council will bring to plenary next week the initiation of the tender process for the 'Benidorm Open Arena' project, an initiative valued at 15 million euros aimed at rehabilitating the bullring and its surroundings as a cultural, youth, and inclusive space.

The extraordinary plenary session, scheduled for April 13, includes a subsidy of 6.4 million euros from FEDER European funds. The remaining investment will be covered by municipal resources, solidifying an ambitious project for the city.

"This is an ambitious project that seeks to create new spaces for culture, leisure, and coexistence, in addition to improving the connection between neighborhoods such as Els Tolls and Foietes-Colonia Madrid."

Toni Pérez · Mayor of Benidorm
The plan is structured around three main lines of action. The first, 'Arena Live', will focus on converting the bullring into a multifunctional space for cultural, social, and sports activities. The second, 'Arena Joven', envisions the creation of an inclusive youth center. Finally, 'Arena Encuentro' is aimed at the urban regeneration of the surroundings, seeking to improve the integration of the venue with the city.
Due to the technical complexity of the intervention and the uncertainty regarding the structural condition of the venue, the City Council has opted to jointly tender the project drafting and the execution of the works. This decision will allow for solutions to be adapted during the development of the work. Furthermore, a fraud risk self-assessment committee has been established, complying with the requirements of the European Union for projects financed with community funds.
The extraordinary plenary will also include the initiation of the contracting procedure for the regulated public parking service, which covers the blue zone, the tow truck service, and the implementation of new green and orange zones. With this action, the City Council seeks to modernize parking management while promoting a high-impact cultural project for the city of Benidorm.
