This initiative is part of the “We Are Seniors, We Are Valuable” campaign, a component of the Radars project, driven by municipal Social Services. Its primary goal is to provide care and support for older individuals, especially those living alone, and to assert their vital role within the municipality.
A notable new feature this year is the campaign's focus on the elderly residents of Xàbia themselves. The town's street furniture will display images of these citizens under the campaign's slogan, aiming to project an “active, diverse, and positive” image. As highlighted by Violero, the Radars project is considered one of the most “important and valuable in the municipality” due to its contribution to happy and community-based aging.
The program for this second edition has been expanded to two weeks to encourage greater participation and will commence next Thursday, April 16, at the Social Center. The schedule of activities, which are entirely free until full capacity is reached, includes a variety of proposals. Among them are workshops on well-being, technology, memory, clay therapy, and aromatherapy. In the health sector, there will be talks on active aging and a senior gymkhana.
Additionally, an intergenerational initiative called “Xàbia in intergenerational movement” is planned, bringing together 5th-grade primary students with older people for joint physical activity. The closing of the days will feature a dance club and a popular lunch to promote leisure and coexistence. Social Services have also updated the Radars project guide and developed a new practical guide with tips to improve the quality of life for older people through small adaptations in their daily habits.
“"These activities are fundamental in a municipality with an increasingly numerous older population. These proposals foster participation, encounters, and coexistence among people of different origins, helping to create bonds and combat unwanted loneliness."
