The Xàbia City Council has unanimously approved the granting of the Medal of the Vila, posthumously, to Gerson Andrés Rincón Murillo, in memory of his actions during a fire last February.

The proposal received unanimous support from the entire municipal corporation in a plenary session marked by emotion and remembrance for a person who left a deep mark on Xàbia's society through his bravery and generosity.
During the fire, Gerson first ensured his family was safe. Then, far from abandoning the building engulfed in flames, he went door-to-door to warn residents of the grave danger, decisively contributing to saving numerous lives, although he lost his own in this act of solidarity.
With this highest honorary distinction, the Xàbia City Council pays tribute to an act of dedication and humanity that will forever remain in the collective memory of the municipality. The corporation has highlighted that his actions represent the noblest values of solidarity, bravery, and commitment to others.

"Today Xàbia honors the memory of a person who acted with extraordinary bravery and immense generosity. Gerson Andrés Rincón Murillo gave his best to save others, and his memory will always remain in the heart of our municipality."

Rosa Cardona · Mayor of Xàbia
The City Council has once again conveyed the support and closeness of the entire institution to Gerson's family, friends, and loved ones, on behalf of all the citizens of Xàbia.
