The northern Marina Alta region has experienced two earthquakes in less than 24 hours, according to data from the National Geographic Institute (IGN), with epicenters in Oliva and Vall de Gallinera.

Seismic activity has returned to Marina Alta, with two telluric movements affecting its northern part. The most recent and notable had its epicenter southeast of the municipality of Oliva, in Safor, at 9:43 PM on Monday, April 13. This earthquake, at a depth of 8.0 kilometers, reached a magnitude of 2.6º.
The tremor was felt in several surrounding towns, including Pego, where it was perceived with an intensity of grade II-III. This means that in some areas of Pego and Oliva (especially in its beach area), the shaking was weak but noticeable inside buildings. People at rest might have felt a slight swaying, and hanging objects could have oscillated slightly, without causing any damage.
In other localities of Safor, such as l'Alqueria de la Comtessa, Miramar, Piles, and Vilallonga, the intensity was grade II, indicating a much weaker tremor. Previously, during the early hours of Sunday, July 12, a first weaker earthquake was recorded in Vall de Gallinera, also in Marina Alta.
This initial seismic movement occurred at 00:49 AM at a depth of 15 kilometers and had a magnitude of 1.6 degrees. Its epicenter was located northeast of the aforementioned municipality of les Valls and was not perceptible. However, it indicates the sporadic seismic activity recorded in Marina Alta, which was quite intense last year.
