Tonyinero Bridge Delayed: Army Footbridge Considered

The construction of the new viaduct between Dénia and Oliva is delayed due to the need for permits from the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, while a provisional solution is sought.

The construction of the new Tonyinero bridge, connecting Dénia and Oliva, will be delayed longer than expected, as it requires approval from the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation, while the installation of a provisional UME footbridge is being considered.

The resolution for the closure of the Tonyinero bridge, which has connected the municipalities of Dénia and Oliva since last December, continues to generate new developments. A recent meeting between the local residents' association and the provincial deputy for Roads of Alicante, Arturo Poquet, has revealed that the construction of the new viaduct will be prolonged.
Poquet, also mayor of Benissa, confirmed the need for an entirely new bridge, as the rehabilitation of the current one is unfeasible. An external study commissioned by the provincial councils of Alicante and Valencia has shown that the bridge's deterioration is due not only to a lack of maintenance but also to the excessive passage of heavy-tonnage vehicles.
The deputy insisted that the construction of the new viaduct is the responsibility of the municipalities of Dénia and Oliva, not the provincial councils. However, he denied that the Alicante Provincial Council refuses to finance the project and assured that he is in continuous contact with his counterpart in the Roads area of the Valencia Provincial Council, Reme Mazzoleri. Both provincial bodies agree that, before determining funding, the actual cost of the project must be known, refuting the figure of 500,000 euros that had been discussed as fictitious.
One of the main obstacles to the construction of the new bridge is the need for permission from the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation. This bureaucratic process is not simple and could take months, even more than a year, which significantly extends the deadlines for a definitive solution.

"The budget of 500,000 euros to build the new bridge, which has been discussed in recent months, is totally fictitious. The amount can only be seriously established once the project is designed and a valuation report is carried out."

Given this situation, the use of a provisional pedestrian footbridge to alleviate the situation was re-evaluated. The possibility of using one of the footbridges that the Military Emergency Unit (UME) built after the DANA in Valencia was raised. However, Poquet clarified that this option is complicated, although he is committed to maintaining contact with the municipalities of Dénia and Oliva to find a solution.
