The Torre dels Ducs de Medinaceli in El Verger opens its doors to Torre de Mescles, an exhibition by artist Jeanne M. Connolly that explores the relationship between painting and textile.

The exhibition, organized in collaboration with the El Verger City Council and the Fundació Baleària, features recent works by Connolly. In these pieces, the artist combines paint, threads, natural and acrylic fibers, reclaimed fabrics, embroidery, tufting, couching, and collage to create compositions that lie between a pictorial surface and a relief.
The central proposal of the exhibition is to make painting abandon the two-dimensional plane and become a tactile experience. On canvas, paper, or fabric, Connolly creates layers of color, structure, and material. In her most recent works, the process begins with a pictorial base that establishes color and atmosphere, before incorporating textile elements.
Thread and fiber function not only as constructive materials but also as lines drawn on the surface. Couching stitches secure the overlays and create a dialogue between the painted structure and the sewn line. Thus, painting, drawing, and textile construction merge into dimensional compositions, halfway between the pictorial and the sculptural.
The installation also gains particular meaning from its location. Torre de Mescles unfolds within the vertical architecture of the Torre dels Ducs de Medinaceli, also known as the Torre del Comendador. As visitors ascend through its different levels, they encounter various expressions of this blend of painting and textile that gives the exhibition its title.
The tour allows discovery of works where color, fiber, and structure interact to form rich textured surfaces, where stitching acts as a graphic gesture and recycled materials acquire a new artistic presence. The exhibition can be visited at the Torre dels Ducs de Medinaceli, at Abadia Street, 2, in El Verger, until June 28, 2026. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
