Photojournalist Jose Manuel López Pérez has won the «Breastfeeding in Other Cultures» category of the Marina Alta Breastfeeding Photography Contest, sponsored by the Pedreguer City Council, with an image captured in Somalia.

Grup Nodrissa has announced the winner of the «Breastfeeding in Other Cultures» category of the Marina Alta Breastfeeding Photography Contest. This year, the prize, endowed with 500 euros and sponsored by the Pedreguer City Council since its inception, has been awarded to Jose Manuel López Pérez, from León.
The awarded photograph depicts a mother breastfeeding her child while recovering from burns sustained in a domestic fire at a hospital in Mogadishu, Somalia. López Pérez explains that such accidents are frequent in parts of Africa, where many families live in substandard housing and are forced to use fires for cooking or heating. The photojournalist was in Somalia documenting the situation after 35 years of conflict.
The Pedreguer City Council has congratulated Grup Nodrissa for organizing the contest and all participants. This edition marks the conclusion of the event, which has championed breastfeeding and photography in the region for three decades.
An exhibition of the award-winning photographs will be on display at the Casa de la Cultura in Dénia from June 18 to July 10, 2026. The award ceremony will take place on June 20, at 11:00 AM, at the same venue. All awarded images and the jury's minutes are available on the Grup Nodrissa website.
