The Nursing Technicians Union (SAE) has denounced that Dénia Hospital has assigned new duties to its professionals, such as handling dirty laundry and waste, which are outside their competencies and affect occupational safety.

According to a statement from the SAE, the hospital has begun to entrust these professionals with tasks related to intra-hospital circuits. These include handling both clean and dirty laundry, waste management, and functions linked to the delivery and removal of patient meals.
The union emphasizes that these functions are not part of the scope of action of nursing technicians, which primarily focuses on patient care. Furthermore, the SAE asserts that the implementation of these tasks has been carried out unilaterally, without prior consultation with the professionals or their representatives.

"It is unacceptable that Nursing Technicians are imposed tasks unrelated to patient care and attention that directly affect the quality of care."

Although the hospital bases its decision on a general protocol from the Generalitat Valenciana, the SAE reminds that this document, prior to its implementation, must comply with the responsibilities contained therein and occupational risk prevention regulations. The union organization also warns that there has been no staff increase to compensate for the additional workload derived from these new responsibilities.
The union demands that, before any decision affecting the functions of professionals, specific obligations related to occupational risk prevention are met. It also requests that, in any case, these changes be discussed in the Safety and Health Committee as part of participation and consultation with worker representatives.
