Councilwoman Maria Rosa Torres Cholbi, who took office on June 12th, has officially received the new delegations from the mayor, also from the PP, Rosa Cardona. Torres will assume responsibilities in Social Services, Elderly Care, and Health; Youth and Childhood, including the Municipal Children's School; Equality; and Urbanizations. Additionally, she will be responsible for resident-related management.
These responsibilities are practically identical to those held by the previous councilwoman, Raquel Violero, who had to resign due to health reasons last May. The decision not to introduce significant changes in delegations aims to maintain the stability of the local government, currently composed of PP and CpJ (Ciudadanos por Jávea), especially with less than a year remaining until the next municipal elections in 2027.
This change occurs in a context where the bipartite government is in the minority, although it has managed to pass important matters in council meetings thanks to the support or abstention of Compromís. The assignment of new responsibilities to Torres is made public shortly before tonight's municipal plenary session, where these changes and new remuneration will be formally approved, although it has not been detailed whether her salary will be the same as Violero's, who had a 55% partial dedication with a gross annual salary of 34,875 euros.
This situation contrasts with the crisis the local government experienced in August 2024, when the first PP spokesperson, Enrique Escrivá, resigned due to disagreements with the mayor. His departure led to a significant restructuring of the executive, which initially consisted of PP, Ciudadanos por Jávea, and Vox.
