The recently established Associació Pont del Tollinero, which represents residents impacted by the closure of this vital infrastructure over the Molinell River, has held a meeting with Oliva's mayor, Yolanda Pastor. This follows an earlier meeting with Dénia's mayor, Vicent Grimalt, with the aim of finding a solution to the communication disruption.
Aware that the definitive reconstruction of the bridge could take time, the association has highlighted the need for an immediate alternative. In this regard, the proposal to install a provisional pedestrian-only walkway, running parallel to the currently inoperative bridge, has been put forward.
“"The definitive reconstruction could take a year or more, which is why we have asked both mayors for an immediate solution, as the summer season is approaching."
The city councils of Dénia and Oliva are already collaborating and contacting other administrations, including the Diputación de Alicante, the Diputación de Valencia, and the Delegación del Gobierno, to expedite the reconstruction process. Both mayors have also met to discuss the issue and have assured the association that if the provincial councils do not cover the costs, the city councils themselves would bear the expenses.
Finally, Yolanda Pastor has called for a joint meeting with residents and Vicent Grimalt at the end of May 2026, to provide updates on the progress made in re-establishing the connection between both banks of the Molinell River.
