The decision, taken unanimously at the ordinary session last Thursday, April 30, represents a decisive step for local heritage. The execution budget for the contract amounts to €1,272,379.84, excluding VAT, and will allow the groundwork for the works to begin soon.
This action has financial support from the Diputación de Alicante, through the PLANIFICA 2024-2027 Plan, and from the Ministry of Housing and Climate Architecture through the Conviure 2022 Plan. The final approval comes after partially accepting the allegations presented by the Artistic Musical Center itself during the public information period, which required modifying the initial project to adjust it to the entity's needs.
The objective of the Pedreguer City Council is for this space to become a building with various public uses. The intervention integrates two contiguous properties of great urban relevance: the old Retén, a 1905 building protected as a Local Relevant Immovable Asset (BRL), where a tourist information point is planned; and the Artistic Center La Musical, which, by the will of its donors, will continue to be the headquarters of the Artistic Musical Center of Pedreguer.
According to the project details, the ground floor of La Musical will retain the existing cafeteria, equipped for concerts, while the upper floors will be used for multi-purpose rooms and a specific room for the local band's rehearsals. To connect the two properties, a communication band will be created to link the different programs.
The rehabilitation will be comprehensive and respectful of the original image. In the case of La Musical, a complete emptying of the building will be carried out, preserving the facade and recovering the original openings. As an architectural novelty, the new access proposes a double-height atrium that will function as an extension of the Plaza Mayor, connecting the interior with the exterior. In addition, a patio adjacent to the Chapel of Communion will be opened to provide natural light to the interior rooms. The latest approved modifications have also included the expansion of the elevator space, thus ensuring better accessibility to all floors.
Beyond the La Musical project, the plenary session unanimously approved the Municipal Cemetery Ordinance and the modification of the regulations of the Conservatory and the School of Music. Finally, with the abstention of the popular group, an extrajudicial recognition of credits of €8,407.53 was approved to cover various repairs in municipal facilities and maintenance expenses for the first quarter of 2026.
