More than 1,200 residents of Calp have signed to demand shade in schoolyards and the construction of public paddle tennis courts, a request that the local government will bring to the plenary session for approval.

The lack of shade in Calp's schoolyards has raised concerns among the educational community, with over 250 families supporting the petition. The situation is particularly critical in centers like Oltà school, where the playground is an asphalt surface that causes burns in case of falls.
In addition to the demands for educational centers, nearly one thousand additional neighborhood signatures have requested the construction of new public paddle tennis courts, demonstrating a wave of citizen demands in the locality.
Given this situation, the local government, formed by Somos Calpe, PSOE, and Compromís, has announced that it will present a credit modification at tomorrow's plenary session, Tuesday, May 12, 2026. This modification, charged to the treasury surplus, amounts to over 4 million euros and will be used to promote investments and actions widely demanded by citizens, including improvements in schoolyards and paddle tennis courts.

"This file does not respond to partisan interests, but to real citizen demands that the government has decided to listen to and incorporate."

The local government has warned that the plenary session will be a test of responsibility for the opposition, especially after the minority situation caused by the unattached councilor. The question is whether the opposition groups will join these citizen demands or decide to block them.
The incorporation of credits also includes other improvements in public services and municipal facilities, such as reinforced cleaning and disinfection, improvements in road safety and video surveillance, and aid to mitigate the increase in energy and fuel costs for the local economy and the Fishermen's Guild.
