The Ondara Town Council has presented the bullfighting program for the Sant Jaume 2026 Popular Festivities, to be held from July 17 to 25, highlighting a new entry of tame bulls and horses, and activities for children.
The bullfighting program for the Sant Jaume 2026 Popular Festivities in Ondara will run from Friday, July 17, coinciding with the proclamation day, until Saturday, July 25, Sant Jaume's Day. This edition promises an intense and varied agenda, with bull runs, releases of cows and bulls, cattle contests, and a bull-leaping competition, among other activities.
The Councillor for Festivities and Traditions, Miguel Gomis, along with the Councillor for Youth, Jordi Ruiz, and the representative of the Ondara Bullfighting Commission, Sergio González, emphasized the coordinated effort to design a comprehensive program. Gomis highlighted the entry of tame bulls and horses as a main novelty, a proposal from the Commission that will be carried out for the first time in Ondara on July 25.
“
"We have a very complete bullfighting program, with events every day of the festivities. The entry of tame bulls and horses was a proposal offered by the Commission, and it seemed like a very good idea to implement it for the first time in Ondara."
Another significant innovation is the day dedicated to children on July 24, featuring a parade with young tame bulls. This activity will allow children to get close to the animals, touch them, and overcome their fear before reaching the bullring, fostering a safe and educational interaction.
For his part, Sergio González explained that the program combines traditional ranches with some new additions, seeking to maintain the quality that the public of Ondara demands. Renowned ranches such as La Hermandad (Xàbia), Cristian Soler (Parcent), Vicent Benavent (Quatretonda), Asensi (Orba), La Paloma (Xaló), Hermanos Cali (Moixent), Els Coves (Pedreguer), El Salero (Montserrat), and Fdo. Machancoses (Cheste) will participate.

"The bull-leaping competitions are one of the events that the public enjoys the most, because the atmosphere in the arena is very special and allows for a better appreciation of the work with the bulls and cows."
The Bullfighting Commission and the Ondara Town Council have called for the festivities to be enjoyed with respect, responsibility, and safety, to preserve this deeply rooted tradition in the Sant Jaume Popular Festivities.
