April has brought an early summer to the Marina Alta, with temperatures reaching close to 28 degrees in various towns. According to Avamet data, Pego recorded the highest temperature in the region this Thursday, April 16, at 27.2 degrees Celsius. Many towns have exceeded 24 degrees, especially inland and pre-coastal areas, including some coastal stations like those in Dénia.
Maximum temperatures are expected to continue rising over the next few days. Between Sunday and Monday, some inland areas could reach 30 degrees. Along the coast, the arrival of sea breezes might slightly cool the atmosphere. These temperatures are 8 to 10 degrees higher than the normal average for this time of year, a fact experts link to climate change.
This anomalous climatic scenario is due to the arrival of a very warm air mass and the presence of a powerful anticyclone. These factors prevent spring rain and cause the sun to intensify greatly. Already this Thursday, many people were desperately seeking shaded areas to walk through the streets of the region, as if it were the middle of summer.
Thursday was a peculiar day. It began with a radiant sunrise, but by midday, a layer of fog covered numerous enclaves, especially north of Cap de Sant Antoni, causing a temporary drop in temperatures. Once the fog dissipated, the thermometer rose again, confirming the early arrival of a summer that seems to be starting weeks ahead of schedule.
