The modification of the rules for 2026 prioritizes cost and volume over literary quality and cultural contribution, drawing criticism from the 'fallero' community.

The Valencian Generalitat has modified the rules for the 'Llibrets de Falla' Awards for the 2026 call, introducing criteria that prioritize publication cost and volume over literary quality and cultural contribution.

This decision has sparked a significant debate within the 'fallero' community, as it is believed to undermine the cultural and creative value of these publications. The provisional resolution, moreover, arrived more than a month after the celebration of the Fallas, adding to the discontent in the sector.

"The 'llibrets' are not an annex. They are not a minor detail. They are written soul. They are collective memory, satire, criticism, poetry, history, and identity."

The 'llibrets de falla' are considered a fundamental expression of the festival, the result of silent and dedicated work by 'falleros' and 'falleras' who write, research, and edit, often with no reward other than seeing their work printed and shared. The Generalitat's new approach, according to critics, transforms a cultural award into an economic compensation based on expenditure, disregarding quality and creativity.
This measure is interpreted as part of a political strategy that, according to some, seeks to dilute local culture and Valencian identity. In this sense, emptying the 'llibrets' awards of content is seen as a way to blur one of the purest forms of expression of the Fallas.
Given this situation, the Generalitat will be urged, through a motion, to refocus the awards on literary quality, creativity, and cultural value. It is also requested that the rules be agreed upon with the 'fallero' community and that a qualified jury be guaranteed to assess what truly matters in these publications.
