The ‘Entreacto’ proposal has been proclaimed the winner of the ideas competition for Pego's future municipal theater. The jury's verdict, recently published on the state contracting platform, confirms the will expressed by the citizens in the consultation held during the first half of October 2025. In this process, 558 registered residents voted, granting 286 votes (50.1% of the total) to the ‘Entreacto’ proposal.
Other submitted projects included ‘Portes obertes’ (95 votes), ‘Oscilando su sueño en el aire’ (63 votes), ‘Pega-li la volta’ (63 votes), and ‘Teatre Victòria’ (50 votes). The competition received a total of 72 initial proposals, and the resolution has been delayed since February due to administrative complications. The Councilor for Urban Planning, Laura Castellà, expressed her satisfaction with this outcome, emphasizing that what the citizens have voted for will be developed.
The first prize comes with a €9,000 endowment and includes the contract for drafting the final execution project of the work, valued at €315,000. The Pego City Council will contact the individuals responsible for the winning design and the second prize (endowed with €4,500) to reveal the identity of the architects, who have remained anonymous. The deadline for drafting the complete technical document will be nine months, during which time conversations are planned to introduce minor modifications if necessary.
The ‘Entreacto’ proposal envisions a theater conceived as an urban landmark, featuring a classic fan-shaped layout that optimizes audience sightlines. It will boast a large stage, 13 meters wide and 10 meters deep, with an ample stage house and storage areas. The main entrance will feature a double-height transparent lobby connected to the exterior urban space, housing the ‘Café del Teatre’. The floor distribution will include management offices, dance studios, technical control rooms, multipurpose rooms for associations and courses, and a sky bar with a rooftop terrace for open-air events.
