Following the success of previous editions, the festival returns with renewed vigor to promote the 'fava poblera' (local broad bean), the municipality's star product. The main novelty of this edition is the relocation of the festival's epicenter from the Plaça de les Pesqueres to the Valencia Avenue car park, located opposite the Local Police station.
Mitjafava Fest 2026 not only celebrates flavor but also creativity. This year sees the launch of the first 'La Fava Exterminadora' contest, a technological proposal consisting of a mobile role-playing game where participants must compete to "exterminate" their opponents and be the last survivor.
In the agricultural and wine section, coordinated by the BioMoscatell association, the traditional homemade wine competition is expanding. A new and anticipated category has been added to previous awards: the prize for the Best Mistela, paying homage to one of the most emblematic products of the Marina Alta region.
The festival's program will kick off with the Fava Gastronomic Days, where various local restaurants will offer broad bean rice dishes throughout the week. On Thursday, April 16, Restaurante La Cumbre will be featured, followed by Ca Toni Mònica on Friday, April 17, and La Trillaora on Saturday, April 18.
On Wednesday, April 15, the Library will host the presentation of the book 'Lola & Vitamino. La aventura de aprender a comer sano' at 7:00 PM. The reading center will also host, from that day on, the ethnological exhibition 'Els oficis' by MACMA, which reviews the main traditional trades of the Marina Alta in danger of extinction.
Following last year's success, on Thursday, April 16, at 7:00 PM at the Social Center, the Associació d'Agricultors Biomoscatell will repeat its wine tasting with pairing, this time led by sommelier Raúl Caselles, from Bodega Miguel de Xàbia. The capacity is 35 people, and registration will be available from next week.
The main events will take place over the weekend. Avant-garde gastronomy and local tradition will merge on Friday, April 17, in an unmissable event at 8:00 PM in the Valencia Avenue Car Park. The evening will feature a high-level showcooking with chef Carlos García Moreno, from Dexcaro restaurant (Dénia) —distinguished with a Repsol Sun—, and the renowned gastronomic popularizer Maria Albero (@saboreanda), recently awarded for her professional career. Together, they will create two exclusive tapas with the 'fava poblera' as the star ingredient.
The event, hosted by journalist and popularizer Elena Vidal (@alicantestreetstyle), promises to be a complete sensory experience. After the culinary demonstration, attendees can enjoy a complimentary wine and tasting tapas cooked by the chefs, all enlivened by the live notes of saxophonist Alfredo Ripoll.
On Saturday, April 18, Mitjafava Fest will continue with a day combining agricultural roots with a festive spirit. The morning will begin at 11:00 AM with a visit to the experimental broad bean field and a wine tasting by the Associació d'Agricultors Biomoscatell, followed at 12:00 PM by a popular dance performance by Grup de Danses Morro Falquí and Colla la Llebetjà through the town center.
From 5:30 PM, the activity will move to the marquee on Valencia Avenue with the 'Tardet Pobler', featuring tapas, medieval attractions, and the family game 'La Fava Exterminadora'. Music and popular culture will be the main protagonists with the Muixeranga de la Marina Alta (6:00 PM) and performances by Spicy Cherries, Tres Fan Ball, Bèrnia, and Esther, closing the night with the energy of La Xe-Ranga and Fiona Onix DJ Set. There will be food and drink stalls at popular prices.
On Sunday, April 19, the festival will conclude with a day of community gathering in the Valencia Avenue car park. The morning will start at 10:00 AM with lunch by the bullfighting club El Portalet and the unique contests for the longest broad bean and the broad bean with the most pods. From 11:00 AM, the Tapifava Festival will come alive with local bars and restaurants offering various broad bean dishes at popular prices. The event will be enlivened by concerts from Canta Canalla (11:30 AM) and Músics de Carrer (1:00 PM), concluding at 1:30 PM with the awards ceremony for the best wines, mistelas, and broad beans, as well as the prize for the I Tournament of 'La Fava Exterminadora'.
