The passion for board games has returned to Dénia with the celebration of the third Monopoly tournament, a decade after the first two editions, which took place in 2015 and 2016. The event, organized by Juan Moro, collector and member of the Associació d’Amics del Joguet de Dénia, filled the Municipal Library with laughter and excitement.
This initiative not only served to foster fun and interaction among participants, many of whom were strangers, but also to highlight the splendid past of Dénia's toy industry, which was once one of the city's main sources of prosperity. Furthermore, the tournament marked the inauguration of the library's game room, which now boasts over fifty board games thanks to various donations.
After several preliminary rounds, four adults reached the final game: Javier Garrocha, Pamela Pagador, Noemí Giner, and Mariana Vergara. The tournament was open to participants aged 8 and above, with no upper age limit. The choice of Monopoly was not accidental, as it is the best-selling board game in history, with nearly 300 million units sold and a wide variety of versions. During the event, a special wooden board manufactured in 1991 by the Franklin Mint company was on display.
The top-ranked players received various prizes thanks to the collaboration of local businesses such as Fundació Baleària, Toy Planet Dénia, Melicatessen, Cyber Arena, and the bookstore Dilantando Mentes de Ondara. Among the awards, a special edition of Monopoly donated by Juan Moro himself stood out.
