Dénia's Local Police have unveiled their new video surveillance system, now featuring 253 cameras across the municipality, aimed at improving citizen security and emergency response.

The city of Dénia now has a video surveillance system receiving real-time images from 253 cameras distributed across public and private spaces. This system, located at the Local Police station, uses artificial intelligence to deter criminals, monitor traffic, respond to emergencies, and resolve investigations.
Security Councilor Javier Scotto and Chief Superintendent of the Local Police, Jovi Estruch, highlighted that the technology, operational for two weeks, transforms Dénia into a 'smart city' for security. The presence of cameras acts as a deterrent, and their capabilities will enable rapid responses to any incident.
Images captured by the cameras, which are of three types (180-degree panoramic, high-resolution 4K, and LPR license plate readers), will only be accessible to security forces and courts, and cannot be directly requested by citizens. The system aims to end anonymity and impunity, providing peace of mind to residents.
The system has already yielded initial results, assisting in solving hit-and-run traffic accidents and enabling the tracking of missing persons or those involved in crimes. The police have received numerous collaboration requests from other law enforcement agencies.
Jovi Estruch reassured citizens that the project strictly adheres to data protection regulations and its purpose is not to monitor daily life but to ensure a safer city. An internal protocol for image processing and transfer has been established, including a chain of custody and a maximum retention period of 30 days. Furthermore, different user access profiles have been created for the software to ensure data minimization.
