Dénia's incoming mayor, Rafa Carrió (Compromís), announced this Thursday his renunciation of the 53,000 euro annual salary, which will be allocated to planting trees as climate refuges.

Dénia's future mayor, Rafa Carrió, has made a surprising announcement two days before his investiture: he will renounce his mayoral salary of 53,000 euros annually. This money will be reinvested in planting trees to serve as climate refuges for the city. Carrió made this announcement at a symbolic event held at the Compromís headquarters, where he was accompanied by Sebastià Garcia, a former mayor of the city, representing the continuity of political Valencianism.
Carrió has expressed his desire to be a mayor for all citizens, extending a hand to all municipal groups to reach consensus on the city's major projects. He has offered his support to parties that believe he can be a good mayor for Dénia, seeking collaboration and avoiding permanent confrontation. He also recalled that the investiture pact with the PSPV was agreed upon three years ago and expressed confidence in its fulfillment, although he noted that he was displeased that the outgoing mayor, Vicent Grimalt, did not mention Compromís in his farewell speech.
The decision to renounce the salary, which is not a criticism of other public officials with exclusive dedication, is based on Carrió's personal situation, as he is retired. The generated savings will be allocated to a project to make Dénia greener and shadier. The proposal will be coordinated with the Parks and Gardens department, and collaboration will be sought from all opposition groups to improve the initiative.

"I do not aspire to be just the mayor of those who think like me or who voted for me. I would like to be a mayor for everyone."

Carrió highlighted the importance of shared work for the city's transformation, recalling that the progress achieved during the legislature has been the result of collaboration from many people, including municipal workers, entities, and different political forces. He urged the socialists to maintain the same institutional loyalty that Compromís has demonstrated in fulfilling the pact.
