The Calp City Council has been awarded the 'S' sustainability certificate for its Arenal-Bol and La Fossa beaches, as well as its two tourist offices, acknowledging its commitment to sustainable practices and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This distinction, granted by the Institute for Spanish Tourist Quality (ICTE), validates the good practices and commitments adopted by the municipal corporation of Calp. These initiatives align with the SDGs and promote a respectful, inclusive, and coherent tourism model with the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development.
To obtain this certification, the Calp City Council has implemented a Sustainability Plan that includes strategic actions already underway and others planned for the future. Among the notable measures is the adherence of Arenal-Bol, La Fossa, and Cantal Roig beaches to the Smoke-Free Beaches network, with the entry into force of an ordinance prohibiting smoking on all coves and beaches in the municipality.
Furthermore, the transfer service for people with reduced mobility to adapted bathing areas has been improved, with the purchase of equipment such as two amphibious chairs and ten packs of amphibious crutches. The Calp Climate Change Adaptation Plan has also been certified according to the international standard UNE-ISO 14092:2021, which establishes the requirements for effective planning in response to the effects of climate change.
The plan also includes the initiation of a study on the carrying capacity of the beaches to assess the impact of human activity and implement measures to protect the coastal environment. Electricity and water consumption, and waste generation from tourist offices, as well as fuel for Local Police patrols and cleaning vehicles, will be recorded to measure environmental impact.
The Calp Tourist Office Action Plan includes the renovation of the Arenal-Bol tourist information point booth, specialized training for tourism technicians on the SICTED system, and the environmental awareness campaign “¡Cuida de Calp hoy, disfrútalo siempre!”. This campaign involves the installation of MUPIS and the distribution of brochures with a decalogue of good practices for a more sustainable municipality, in addition to creating a brand for the promotion of the Environmental Education program.
For the implementation and maintenance of the 'S' for Sustainability, a sustainability committee has been established to promote sustainable criteria in the management of tourist offices and beaches, overseeing compliance with environmental, social, and economic indicators. This annual certification was obtained through a consulting services contract costing 29,023.06 euros, funded by Next GenerationEU funds within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
