The Generalitat Valenciana has requested the Xàtiva City Council to reimburse 399,265.56 euros already paid for the rehabilitation of the Royal Monastery of Santa Clara, intending to terminate the existing agreement.

The municipal corporation of Xàtiva has expressed its strong rejection of this decision, which it believes severely harms the city's interests and blocks a strategic project already underway and close to starting construction. Furthermore, the Generalitat intends to add late payment interest to the reclaimed amount, according to a resolution sent this Monday.
The funds claimed have already been executed in the development of a project drafted by renowned architects Ramón Esteve and Carlos Campos. This project proposes a comprehensive intervention respectful of the building's heritage value, a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC), and seeks to provide it with new uses linked to culture, including the implementation of the Raimon Centre for Cultural Activities (CRAC).

It is incomprehensible that the Generalitat chooses to terminate a valid agreement without having proposed any real alternative, especially when since last December, a new agreement announced by the autonomous administration itself has been awaited.

The municipal government, led by Roger Cerdà (PSPV), emphasizes that the Generalitat is fully aware that the start of the works is imminent and that public resources have already been allocated to the drafting and execution of the project. This situation leaves the City Council in a position of uncertainty, solely assuming the financing of a key action for the rehabilitation of the city's heritage.
The government team regrets that, since the arrival of the Partido Popular to the autonomous institutions, the Generalitat has not allocated any investment to Xàtiva. The Councillor of Finance for Xàtiva, Ignacio Reig, has criticized the decision.

"After leaving the new Palace of Justice without funding, now they want to eliminate the rehabilitation of Santa Clara, one of the most important BIC buildings in our city. This is the respect the PP has for local heritage."

The city council has announced that it will present the corresponding allegations within the established period to defend Xàtiva's interests and ensure the continuity of this fundamental project for the city's heritage, culture, and future.
