Walking through the streets of Xàtiva is like traveling to the past without forgetting the challenges of the present. Its historic old town, declared a Historic-Artistic Site in 1982, and its imposing Castle make the capital of the Costera region a place that leaves no one indifferent. The city has successfully combined the conservation of its valuable historical and natural heritage with a firm commitment to accessibility, innovation, and tourism sustainability.
This recognition comes at a key moment for the town, which has placed sustainability at the center of its tourism strategy. This is primarily articulated through the Sustainable Tourism in Destination Plan (PSTD), funded with nearly two million euros from the European Next Generation funds, which was presented at the last edition of Fitur in Madrid.
Among the plan's initiatives are the analysis of the current tourism situation, the review of municipal policies, and the creation of coordination spaces between departments of the Xàtiva City Council. It also incorporates a clear commitment to digitalization and intelligent destination management, with tools that will enable better data-driven decision-making and visitor flow management.
With this award, Levante-EMV recognizes the work done by Xàtiva to consolidate itself as a benchmark for sustainable tourism in the Valencian Community, promoting a development model that focuses on heritage protection, respect for the environment, and the generation of opportunities for the local economy.
