This event's main objective is to raise public awareness about KARS syndromes and to raise essential funds for a research project aimed at developing gene therapy. Currently, these diseases have no cure, and research is in a very preliminary phase, making initiatives like this vital for the just over 50 cases existing worldwide.
Thanks to the support received in the I Solidarity March, which raised over 16,500 euros, the Cure KARS initiative was able to launch, together with the Carlos III Health Institute, the first research project for a replacement gene therapy for KARS1. This represents great hope for affected children and their families, as it could be the first cure for these ultra-rare diseases.
With this second edition, the foundation, which is a public utility and non-profit organization, seeks to obtain the necessary economic boost to consolidate the research project, which has an estimated cost of 250,000 euros over four years. The organization has opened a period for receiving donations from companies and residents, and encourages all citizens to actively participate in scientific research.
To date, around fifty companies have already shown their support, and more than 500 bib numbers have been sold at physical points of sale. Bib numbers are also available at the City Council of l'Alcúdia de Crespins, Baldufa, Forn Ribelles, Sara, Vinarium, and Forn i Que Bo!!!, to whom the organization expresses its gratitude for their selfless collaboration.
