The Generalitat Valenciana has decided to withdraw from the rehabilitation of the Santa Clara Monastery for the future Raimon Cultural Activities Center in Xàtiva, formalizing a break that includes the demand for funds already invested by the city council.

This decision, which the Xàtiva city council already feared, represents an abandonment of the project. Following the cancellation of the Palau de Justícia and other gestures of disregard for the figure of singer-songwriter Raimon and local heritage, the Valencian Government has formalized a rupture that leaves the city in a situation of extreme vulnerability.
The General Directorate of Local Administration notified on Monday the initiation of the procedure to terminate the agreement that was supposed to finance the works with more than 3 million euros. The regional executive has not only failed to offer an alternative financing, but has gone a step further by demanding the immediate return of 399,265.56 euros already paid, to which it intends to add late payment interest. This claim is made despite the fact that the Xàtiva City Council has already used these funds for the drafting of a comprehensive project by architects Ramón Esteve and Carlos Campos.

"Not a single euro. After leaving the Palace of Justice without funding, now they want to eliminate the rehabilitation of Santa Clara. This is the respect the PP has for local heritage."

Ignacio Reig · Xàtiva City Councillor for Finance
The municipal government considers it incomprehensible that the Consell breaks a valid agreement without having materialized the new financing agreement promised last December. The Councillor for Finance, Ignacio Reig, has denounced the lack of investment in the city since the PP came to power in the Generalitat.
The Generalitat's resolution justifies this measure by alleging a breach of execution deadlines that expired on December 31, 2025. However, the Xàtiva City Council emphasizes that the regional administration is fully aware that the project is ready to begin works and that the resources have already been correctly allocated to technical execution. The city council has already announced that it will present allegations to defend the interests of Xàtiva and prevent the emblematic project for the revitalization of the old town from being definitively buried.
