The Generalitat has completed the removal of over 29,100 tons of waste in Picanya, closing the debris collection point and thus completing the municipality's recovery after the floods of October 29.

This action, which includes the removal of 4,100 tons of reconstruction waste, reaffirms the Consell's commitment to the affected municipalities. The Commissioner for Recovery of the Generalitat, Raúl Mérida, visited Picanya for the closure of the facility, highlighting the Generalitat's leadership in reconstruction and its role as a strategic ally for localities that suffered the effects of the DANA.

"The Generalitat continues to firmly lead the reconstruction, consolidating itself as a strategic ally for many localities that suffered the effects of the DANA."

The autonomous plan to support local councils, launched due to the impossibility of municipalities to bear the high cleaning costs, has managed a first phase of waste removal generated by the floods and a second phase for debris from reconstruction. Mérida explained that the Generalitat has expanded this initial plan to rescue affected municipalities, managing a new batch of waste derived from the reconstruction process.
This second phase involves 19 municipalities and has an investment of 40 million euros from the Third Vice-Presidency and Ministry of Environment, Infrastructure, Territory and Recovery. This amount is in addition to the 224 million euros that the Generalitat has allocated to the removal of over one million tons of waste after the floods in all affected localities. In the case of Picanya, the investment has been 6.35 million euros in bulky waste management, of which 6.1 million have been allocated to the removal of over 25,000 tons and 275,000 euros to the emptying and cleaning of collection points.
Mérida pointed out the importance of the Picanya city council carrying out monitoring and an educational process for the population for the correct management of future waste. Localities such as Albal, Aldaia, Alfafar, Chiva, Gestalgar, Paiporta, Utiel, Xirivella, Turís, L'Alcúdia, Benetússer, Catadau, Catarroja, Montserrat, Quart de Poblet, Riba-roja de Túria, Sedaví, and Sot de Chera have joined the new plan. So far, waste removal has been completed in 12 municipalities, representing 63% of the total.
The Generalitat has collaborated with the same concessionary companies for municipal waste management to expedite the work. Within the framework of the Plan Endavant, the Generalitat has allocated over 50 million euros to direct actions in Picanya, including the reconstruction of the Torrent–Picanya collector through EPSAR, the repair of rural roads, cleaning of homes, actions in educational centers, and direct aid to citizens. In addition, 140 million euros have been added for the recovery of Metrovalencia, which also benefits the municipality.
